All of this reminds me of the story of the friend of R. Daneel Olivaw, one Sherlock Holmesbot, who was hired to find the culprit who was running over human beings on the night of the full moon. It was assumed widely that the perp was an automobile, which by that time had self-awareness due to the complexity of their onboard computers.

Using a tire-track at the scene of a particularly vicious hit-and-run, Holmesbot found and arrestged a bronze 240Z, one with a moonroof, naturally. The car confessed and asked how he had been found out. Holmesbot's response was, of course, "Elementary, my were-Datsun."
