in reply to today's wwftd, a minion writes: I actually have used a derivative of the word "pootle" (with the same meaning) for years: Pootley-fart.
so, I gather that, where most USns would simply 'fart around' to kill time, a surpassing variant might be to 'pootley-fart (around?)'.

It is as quaintly amusing as that wonderful term diddly-squat (which always sounds best in a southern accent)
