One part of "yellow journalism" not mentioned was "yellow peril" - journalistic rants,
particularly in California, about fear of ;potential threat from China because of its
huge population, and alleged threat of Asiatic immigration to this country.

as noted, yellow journalism started in NY, and NY had laws concerning miscegenation on the books till the 1960's! and most were aimed at asian/white mixed marriages, not black/white. California was not alone in being afraid of a yellow peril..
traces still exist, and there is good deal of resentment against the new asian communities.. be they japanese (smallest), chinese, (middleing) or korean (largest asian group in NYC).
