OP
Perhaps you've come across the little blue Langenscheidt Mini Webster Dictionary [1] at a bookstore. One technique used to keep the volume tiny is to exclude common words such as play in favor of not-so-common words such as polysemous. (Disclaimer: I haven't verified that this particular word is included.)
Anyway, I recently acquired a Palm OS device. Several Handango software suites bundle the WordSmith word processing app [2] with an integrated thesaurus app [3] and the Bdicty dictionary app [4]. Unfortunately, the default lexicons choose to define play rather than polysmeous.
I'm wondering whether you're aware of a soft dictionary or thesaurus with entries selected or categorized using the Langenscheidt Mini Webster heuristic described above. Being a software developer, I could easily convert it to Thesaurus records and/or a Bdicty lexicon.
I've come across an online list [5] by Mr. Steve Chrisomalis. But I'm afraid it contains entries too obscure to be useful for communication with even my most learned acquaintances.
Perhaps someone has access to an archive of the parlez.com _Word of the Day_ entries. . . .
With care,
Joe Walp

That company also offers mini translation dictionaries. As I recall,
the French one has a green cover.

Hiya Joe Walp, and WELCOME to the Board.
Unfortunately, I have no answers or responses to your enquiry but couldn't leave you languishing here unwelcomed (all those others must still be sleeping).
Hang around, I'm sure you'll like it here...
i haven't persued word software for my palm (Vx) but i do have the full NYC subway map-- and XMan, a cross street locator (enter an Manhattan address and get the nearest cross street.)
i presume you checked out most of the Palm sites?
Years ago (15 almost now) the Franklin had a pretty good dictionary module-- but i don't know if it was good by today's standards or just for the time. PDA's where pretty much novelties then.
Psions have some great software, they run the old 8086 software, and there alot of PD software out there for 8086's apps. they are just harder to sync with advanceds mail systems, and don't play well with most firewall software. (and while 2 year ago, the time was calling them the Jaguar of PDA's.. i think they are no-where in US, but our UK friends might feel differently.)i retired mine some years ago in favor of a palm.
