From the original thread:
The song lyrics thread has made me think that you guys might enjoy a game I've been playing on another board. Link the Lyrics is played with a series of excerpts from song lyric(s); the object is to post lyrics which duplicate a word or phrase included in the immediately preceding post.

So - if I posted the lyrics from You're Having My Baby [bushasuru emoticon], someone could follow with the lyrics from Baby, Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me [bushasuru-again e]. In posting lyrics, please ~

~ confine the lyrics to four lines or less, unless the song is out of copyright
~ boldface the linking word or phrase
~ identify the title of the song, and
~ identify the composer or first performer of the song

OK. Here we go.

Who do you love
Who do you love
Girl I know that you are torn between what was and what could be
I wanna know, gotta know, wanna know, gotta know
Who do you love
Who do you love
Oh yeah

I walked 47 miles on barbed-wire,
Got a cobra-snake for a necktie.
I built a house by the roadside,
Made of rattlesnake hide.
Got a brand new chimney up on top,
Made out of human skulls.
Come on baby take a walk with me,
And tell me who do you love?

Variations by Bo Diddley, Fabulous Thuderbirds, and the Doors... as well as others...

I got the house
I got the car
I got the rug
And I got the rack
But I ain't got Jack
And I want my Jack back!

You looked for trouble and you found it son
Straight down the barrel of a lawman's gun
You'd try to run but you don't think you can
You make one move and you're dead man, friend
I ain't living long like this
I can't live at all like this, can I baby

"I Ain't Living Long Like This"

Aretha Franklin

Chain, chain, chain, chain, chain, chain
Chain, chain, chain, chain of fools
Five long years I thought you were my man
But I found out I'm just a link in your chain
You got me where you want me
I ain't nothing but your fool
You treated me mean oh you treated me cruel
Chain, chain, chain, chain of fools

Chain of Fools
Performed by Aretha Franklin--did she write it?

CHAIN GANG

(Hooh! aah! hooh!)
I hear somethin' sayin'

(hooh! aah!) (hooh! aah!)
(hooh! aah!) (hooh! aah!)

(Well, don't you know)
That's the sound of the men working on the chain ga-a-ang
That's the sound of the men working on the chain gang

All day long they're singin'
(hooh! aah!) (hooh! aah!)
(hooh! aah!) (hooh! aah!)

(Well, don't you know)
That's the sound of the men working on the chain ga-a-ang
That's the sound of the men working on the chain gang

All day long they work so hard
Till the sun is goin' down
Working on the highways and byways
And wearing, wearing a frown
You hear them moanin' their lives away
Then you hear somebody sa-ay

That's the sound of the men working on the chain ga-a-ang
That's the sound of the men working on the chain gang

Can't ya hear them singin'
Mm, I'm goin' home one of these days
I'm goin' home see my woman
Whom I love so dear
But meanwhile I got to work right he-ere

(Well, don't you know)
That's the sound of the men working on the chain ga-a-ang
That's the sound of the men working on the chain gang

All day long they're singin', mm
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my work is so hard
Give me water, I'm thirsty

FADE
My work is so hard

Burns: Some men hunt for sport,
Others hunt for food,
The only thing I'm hunting for,
Is an outfit that looks good...

See my vest, see my vest,
Made from real gorilla chest,
Feel this sweater, there's no better,
Than authentic Irish setter.

See this hat, 'twas my cat,
My evening wear - vampire bat,
These white slippers are albino
African endangered rhino.

Grizzly bear underwear,
Turtles' necks, I've got my share,
Beret of poodle, on my noodle
It shall rest,

Try my red robin suit,
It comes one breast or two,
See my vest, see my vest,
See my vest.

Like my loafers? Former gophers -
It was that or skin my chauffeurs,
But a greyhound fur tuxedo
Would be best,

So let's prepare these dogs,
Kill two for matching clogs,
See my vest, see my vest,
Oh please, won't you see my vest.

I found a picture of you.
Oh, what hijacked my world at night.
To a place in the past,
We've been cast out of.
Oh, now we're back in the fight.
We're back on the train yeah,
Oh, back on the chain gang.

Circumstance beyond our control,
Oh, the phone, the TV and the News of the World.
Got in my house like a pigeon from hell.
Oh, threw sand in our eyes descending like flies.
Oh, put as back on the train yeah,
Oh,
Back on the chain gang...

Chains, my baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind that you can see-ee-ee-ee
Whoa, oh, it's chains of lo-o-ove
Got a hold on me, yeah

Chains, well, I can't break away from these chains
I can't run around 'cause I'm not free-ee-ee-ee
Whoa, oh, these chains of lo-o-ove
Won't let me be, yeah

Now, believe me when I tell you "I think you're fine"
I'd like to love you but, darling, I'm imprisoned by these

Chains, my baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind that you can see-ee-ee-ee
Whoa, oh, it's chains of lo-o-ove
Got a hold on me, yeah

I wanna tell you, pretty baby, "your lips look sweet"
I'd like to kiss them but I can't break away from all of these

Chains, my baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind that you can see-ee-ee-ee
Whoa, oh, it's chains of lo-o-ove
Got a hold on me, yeah

Chains, chains of lo-o-o-ove

[Well, this is really a cheat...]

Unchained Melody

Oh, my love, my darling,
I've hungered for your touch
a long, lonely time . . .

Time goes by so slowly
and time can do so much.
Are you still mine?

I need your love,
I need your love,
God speed your love to me.

Lonely rivers flow
to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea

Lonely rivers sigh,
"Wait for me, wait for me"
"I'll be comin' home, wait for me!"

Oh, my love, my darling,
I've hungered for your touch
a long, lonely time . . .

Time goes by so slowly
an' time can do so much.
Are you still mine?

I need your love,
I need your love,
God speed your love to me

Baby, let's get together
Honey hush, me and you
And do the things
Ah, do the things
That we like to do
Oh . . .

Do a little dance, make a little love
Get down tonight, get down tonight
Do a little dance, make a little love
Get down tonight, get down tonight

Get down deeper and down
Down down deeper and down
Down down deeper and down
Get down deeper and down

I want all the world to see
To see you´re laughing
And you´re laughing at me
I can take it all from you
Again again again again again again again
Deeper and down

Down down deeper and down
Down down deeper and down
Down down deeper and down
Get down deeper and down

I was walking down the High Street
When I heard footsteps behind me
And there was a little old man (Hello)
In scarlet and grey, shuffling away (laughter)
Well he trotted back to my house
And he sat beside the telly (Oaah..)
With his tiny hands on his tummy
Chuckling away, laughing all day (laughter)

Oh, I ought to report you to the Gnome office
(Gnome Office)
Yes
(Hahahahaha)

CHORUS
Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you can't catch me"
Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you can't catch me"
Said the laughing Gnome

Well I gave him roasted toadstools and a glass of dandelion wine (Burp, pardon)
Then I put him on a train to Eastbourne
Carried his bag and gave him a fag
(Haven't you got a light boy?)
"Here, where do you come from?"
(Gnome-man's land, hahihihi)
"Oh, really?"

In the morning when I woke up
He was sitting on the edge of my bed
With his brother whose name was Fred
He'd bought him along to sing me a song

Right, let's hear it
Here, what's that clicking noise?
(That's Fred, he's a "metrognome", haha)

Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you don't catch me"
Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you can't catch me"

(Own up, I'm a gnome, ain't I right, haha)
"Haven't you got an 'ome to go to?"
(No, we're gnomads)
"Didn't they teach you to get your hair cut at school?
you look like a rolling gnome."
(No, not at the London School of Ecognomics)

Now they're staying up the chimney
And we're living on caviar and honey (hooray!)
Cause they're earning me lots of money
Writing comedy prose for radio shows
It's the-er (what?)
It's the Gnome service of course

Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you don't catch me"
Ha ha ha, oh, dear me

(Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you can't catch me"
Ha ha ha, hee hee hee
"I'm a laughing Gnome and you can't catch me")

David Bowie

Just couldn't help it...

Unskinny bop
Blows me away yeh
Unskinny bop bop
All night and day yeh
Unskinny bop bop bop bop
She just loves to play yeh
Unskinny bop; nuthin more to say

What's right - what's wrong - what's left?
What the hell is going on...

I'll see your Poison and raise you a Hanson...

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You're going through all this pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
And they're gone so fast
So hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
When you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care

Mmm bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du

Mmm bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du

In an mmm bop, they're gone
Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows
It's a secret no one knows
It's a secret no one knows

Repeat chorus until nauseated.

Mmm-Bop, by Hanson

And when I walked to home
Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron

I knew what she was doing when she caught my eye

She looked so quiet but my oh my

I picked her up at seven and she looked so fine

I got a little jar in the comfort room
............................... ^ ..................................
What, pray tell, does that mean ? ? ? ?
And I don't believe that part about the 700 women either. - mw

muddywatersmuddywatersmuddywatersmuddywatersmu

yeah
a gypsy once told my mother
before I was born
she said "you got a boy child comin'
he's goin' to be a son of a gun
he's goin' make you pretty women, jump and shout
then the world will know
what it's all about

Now I'm here
Everbody knows I'm here
I'm the hoochie koochie man
Everybody knows I'm here.

On the seventh hour, of the seventh day
On the seventh month, seven doctors say...
"He was born for good luck" - can't you see,
I got seven hundred dollars
So don't you mess with me.

Because I'm here
Everybody knows I'm here
I'm the Hoochie- Koochie man
Everybody knows I'm here.

I've got a bad cat bone
I've got a bojo too
I got a little jar in the comfort room
I got Little John the Conquer- roo.
I'm gonna make you girl, fit inside my hand
then the world gonna know
I'm a hoochie koochie man.

I'm here
everybody knows I'm here

on the seventh night
of the seventh month
of the seventh week,
the seventh time she said
"he was born for good luck",
can't you see
I got 700 women
so don't you mess with me

Because I'm here
Everybody knows I'm here
I'm the hoochie koochie man
Everybody knows I'm here.

There are locks on the doors
And chains stretched across all the entries to the inside
There's a gate and a fence
And bars to protect from only God knows what lurks outside
Who stole your heart left you with a space
That no one and nothing can fill
Who stole your heart who took it away
Knowing that without it you can't live
Who took away the part so essential to the whole
Left you a hollow body
Skin and bone
What robber what thief who stole your heart and the key

Who stole your heart
The smile from your face
The innocence the light from your eyes
Who stole your heart or did you give it away
And if so then when and why
Who took away the part so essential to the whole
Left you a hollow body
Skin and bone
What robber what thief
Who stole your heart and the key

Now all sentiment is gone
Now you have no trust in no one

Who stole your heart
Did you know but forget the method and moment in time
Was it a trickster using mirrors and sleight of hand
A strong elixir or a potion that you drank
Who hurt your heart
Bruised it in a place
That no one and nothing can heal

You've gone to wizards, princes and magic men
You've gone to witches, the good the bad the indifferent
But still all sentiment is gone
But still you have no trust in no one

If you can tear down the walls
Throw your armor away remove all roadblocks barricades
If you can forget there are bandits and dragons to slay
And don't forget that you defend an empty space
And remember the tinman
Found he had what he thought he lacked
Remember the tinman
Go find your hear and take it back

Who stole your heart
Maybe no one can say
One day you will find it I pray

Remember The Tinman - Tracy Chapman

Unchain my heart, Baby set me free
Unchain my heart, cause you don't care about me
Why must I live in misery
When it's plain to see that you don't care about me
So unchain my heart Baby, set me free.

I'm under your spell, like a man in a trance
And you know darn well, that I don't have a chance
So unchain my heart, Baby set me free.

The Witch-Queen of New Orleans

by Redbone

The Witch-Queen of New Orleans
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau - she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau - she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau
She's the witch-queen, ah, of New Orleans, of New Orleans

I'm gonna tell you a story strange as it now seems
Of zombie voodoo gris gris and the witch-queen of New Orleans
She lived in a world of magic possessed by the devil's queue
From a shack near the swamp lands made of mud by brick
Marie stirred her witches brew

Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau - she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau - she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau
She's the witch-queen, ah, of New Orleans, of New Orleans

Dime or a nickel, anyone could buy voodoo of any kind
She had potions and lotions, herbs and tanna leaves
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Early one mornin' into mucky swamp dew
Vanished Marie with hate in her eyes
Tho' she'll never return all the Cajuns knew
A witch-queen never dies

Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau - she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau - she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau
She's the witch-queen, ah, of New Orleans, of New Orleans

Marie, Marie La 'Voodoo' Veau ....

She walks everyday through the streets of New Orleans
She's innocent and young from a family of means
I have stood many times outside her window at night
To struggle with my instinct in the pale moon light
How could I be this way when I pray to God above
I must love what I destroy and destroy the thing I love
Oh you'll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet
While there's a moon over Bourbon Street

I'm goin' to Louisiana, and get me a mojo hand
I'm goin' to Louisiana, and get me a mojo hand
I'm gonna fix my woman so she can't have no other man

Cold ground was my bed last night, rocks was my pillow too
Cold ground was my bed last night, rocks was my pillow too
I woke up this morning,
I'm wondering, "What in the world am I gonna do?"

I lay down thinking, "Buy me a mojo hand."
I lay down thinking, "Buy me a mojo hand."
I did wanna fix my woman so she can't have no other man

But don't let your woman, fix you like mine fixed me
Don't let your woman, boy, fix you like mine fixed me
She make a fool about her, about as a fool can be

Now, can't a woman act funny, heheheheh, when she got another man
Can't a woman act funny, when she got another man
You know she won't look straight at you, and she's always raisin' sand.

ssssssaaaand.

Well, I'm going tomorrow, but I won't be gone long
I'm going tomorrow, but I won't be gone very long
I'm gonna get me a mojo hand, I'm gonna bring it back home

(spoken) That's what I'm gonna do.

Re: Hanson -> heh heh heh! I went looking for a song from Barney that might have included "Bop", but I had to settle for the boys. Would you have rather I continued my search for the big purple dinosaur?

Maybe this will restore me to your graces:

Ah, you know that nothing lasts forever
And it's all been done before
Ah, but you ain't got the time to go to Cold Spring Harbor
No more

I will always love you (Whitney Houston)

If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you every step of the way
And I will always love you
I will always love you...
Bitter sweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So goodbye, please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you need
And I will always love you
I will always love you
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness
But above all this I wish you love

And I will always love you
I will always love you

Fiberbabe, you couldn't find a song with "Bop" in it?

I wanna bop with you baby, all night long
I wanna bop the night away
I wanna made it tonight like it used to be
When our hearts were young and our souls were free
I wanna bop, with you baby, all night long
I wanna be-bop, with you baby, 'till the break of dawn
I wanna bop, with you baby, all night long

"Bop"

bop lyric song (not talkin' about be-bop here)...ladies and gentlemen...
Mr. Little Richard!....

Tutti Frutti

Little Richard

Wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom!

Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Tutti frutti, oh rutti,
Wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom!

I got a gal, named Sue, she knows just what to do,
I got a gal, named Sue, she knows just what to do,
She rocks to the East, she rocks to the West,
She is the gal that I love best,
Tutti frutti, ...

I got a gal, named Daisy, she almost drives me crazy,
Got a gal, named Daisy, she almost drives me crazy,
She knows how to love me, yes indeed,
Boy you don't know what she's doin' to me,
Tutti frutti, ...

Wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom!

Imagination

Imagination is funny
It makes a cloudy day sunny
It makes a bee think of honey
Just like I think of you
Imagination is crazy
Your whole perspective gets hazy
It starts you asking a daisy what to do
What to do
Have you ever felt a gentle touch
And then a kiss, then and then
You find it's only your imagination again
Oh well
Imagination is silly
You go around willy-nilly
For example I go around wanting you
Yet I can't imagine that you want me too

There's all kinds of music
Everywhere you go
Some folks like it fast
Some folks like it slow
Some folks like it hot
Some folks like it blue
Some folks like it old
Some folks like it new

Now I'm not knocking country
And I'm not rappin' rap
Big Band swing just ain't my thing
Alternative ain't my snap

The only thing that turns me on
Is when I hear a soulful song

Soul with a capitol "S"
Soul with a capitol "S"
Sweet soul music that's the best
Soul with a capitol "S"

Music makes you happy
Or it can make you sad
It can turn the worst day
To the best you've ever had
For entertainment value
If I had to choose
You and me might disagree
'Cause I like Rhythm and Blues

Now I'm not dissin' disco
Not sayin' punk is bunk
I can't settle for heavy metal
'Cause I've gotta have that funk

Soul with a capitol "S"
Soul with a capitol "S"
Sweet soul music that's the best
Soul with a capitol "S"

Soul With a Capitol "S" - Tower of Power
This is the greatest song to shovel snow by!

But you can say baby
Baby can I hold you tonight
Maybe if I told you the right words
At the right time you'd be mine

I'm writing you, my dear,
Just to tell you,
In September, you remember
'Neath the old apple tree
You whispered to me
When it blossomed again, you'd be mine.

Lyrics by Neville Fleeson;
Music by Albert Von Tilzer

There are places I'll remember,
all my life though some have changed.
Some forever not for better,
some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments,
with lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living,
in my life I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers,
there is no one compares with you,
and these memories lose their meaning,
when I think of love as something new.
Though I know I'll never lose affection,
for people and things that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
in my life I love you more.

Though I know I'll never lose affection,
for people and things that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
in my life I love you more.

In my life I love you more.

Love, love me do. You know I love you. I'll always be true.
So please, love me do. Whoa, love me do.

b]Love, love me do. You know I love you, I'll always be true.
So please, love me do. Whoa, love me do.

Someone to love, somebody new. Someone to love, someone like you.

Love, love me do. You know I love you. I'll always be true.
So please, love me do. Whoa, love me do.

Love, love me do. You know I love you. I'll always be true.
So please, love me do. Whoa, love me do. Yeah, love me do.
Whoa, oh, love me do.

“Speak to me gently before we begin,” she pleads, but they laugh and pull her down;
And after they’ve used her, briefly and roughly, they leave her to face the dawn alone.
When they have gone she moves on her side, thinks of the men that with her have laid –
And none of them gave her a kind word of loving, and after they’d done, not one of them stayed.

Once she was wary, chose but a few to roll in her arms at the end of the day,
But the flowers of love begins now to wither, and many may pluck at the petals so gay
Alone in the night she muses awhile, and thinks of the days and how they will pass ~
She cries for the lonely years that are waiting, ‘til death takes her hand and waits her reply.

Down in the barroom she moves among men who watch her and touch her whenever they can;
And she notices hands, and mouths as they drink, and over their tankards the eyes of each man…

Speak to me gently before we begin

She Moves Among Men (The Barmaid’s Song)
(Caddick) sung by June Tabor

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

John Lennon

I feel that I should say "Mornington Crescent" now (British radio joke) - I can't believe that we have gone all this time without Imagine! If we haven't then let me know and I'll have to find something else.

ONE

Singular sensation
Ev'ry little step she takes.
One thrilling combination
Ev'ry move that she makes.
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do.
You know you'll never be lonely with you know who.

One moment in her presence
And you can forget the rest.
For the girl is second best to none, son.
Ooh! Sigh!
Give her your attention.
Do I
Really have to mention
She's the one?

A Chorus Line
