Latest TIME magazine had article about yurts, a word which most of us know. But I wonder how many know that a synonnym for "yurt" is "ger"? http://www.chaingang.org/yurtquest/FAQ.html

Dear Max: If Julia Roberts was living with Mongolians who called them "ger"s, that contradicts the info in URL I gave, which says the Mongolians dislike the name "ger" as it is used by western invaders. I guess if she was with them for a fortnight, she would have learned the preferred term.

Dear Max: I like your phrase "it's not the done thing". I remember a couple instances in which FFV types publicly severely criticised guests, a thing this small town kid never heard done in his house.

Yurt is the name commonly used to refer to a Mongolian Felt Tent or Ger. Mongolians do not usually appreciate the term because it is most often used by Western invaders. So, in spite of this page's title, we will attempt to use Ger where ever possible.
I read this to mean that they didn't like the word 'yurt'!
