This time tsuwm gave me permission to hijack one of his wwftd, which I think is a word so splendid, I am amazed that it dropped out of use, apparently quite a while ago: Forfex = scissors

The peer now spreads the glittering forfex wide, to inclose the lock.>

The only problem I see with it is that it could create a scene in the Operating Room if a tantrum-prone surgeon asked for forfex and was given forceps..

I wouldn't touch this one with the tongs (or the forceps).
