Jazzo was looking for a game that provided a bit more of a challenge than link the lyrics; here's one that's a bit less of a challenge than his historical degrees of separation. : )
this is a subscription game a friend of mine runs; if there is any interest, I'll ask him for permission to mirror it here:
April 8, 2002
Name the song that contains the following lyrics and the band that performed it.
Lyrics: ---------, oh ---------, I still hear your sea winds blowin'. I still see her dark eyes glowin'. She was twenty-one when I left ---------.
---------, oh ---------, I still hear your sea waves crashing. While I watch the cannons flashing, I clean my gun and dream of ---------.
Clues: 1) One word title 2) Two word band name 3) A narrow, secluded valley for making soup 4) Circa 1969 5) Not "Uptight" by "Stevie Wonder" (this last 'clue' merely gives the answer to the privious quiz)
(I don't suppose there'd be much point in posting the answer in public if you know it!)

clue #c has to do with the "band name", did google give you that? (in this quiz the title only gets you halfway home.)

2) Two word band name
Band? Thought it was an artist? Hmmm, guess said artist had band backing said artist, but didn't know said artist's name was also name of the band. Confused yet? Me am... but I know the answer... 80s lyrics are my specialty! I knew 'em all when I was but a wee thing.

Really? Manson family? A heartwarming half-hour of light comedy and devil worship? It'll be a hit!

I played this one in the first band I was in. We were called "Galaxy". We also played "Colour My World" by Chicago. Now there's a *spread!

Why don't we get to see the answers to all these questions.bel? Look at clue number five to each question. The reason that a song is not______ by______ is because that is the answer to the previous one!

Dragons are fighting in the meadow The blood on the ground is black and yellow.
I don't care who wrote it. I don't care who recorded it (I know it from a recording by Dave Van Ronk).
What I want you to tell me is where did the quoted lyric come from and where did the writer(s) steal the tune from?

I hope you're not looking to me for an answer on that, Faldage. most of these I wouldn't know the answer tomorrow after seeing it today (although this one I recognized, it being from '59 and all) -- I'm just passing them along.

Stagger Lee?
Several clues lead me to suspect that your post, Connie was a reply to my question. Um. The song is Honey Hair and it appears to be a Dave Van Ronk original. The questions (to reiterate) were:
A) Where did the line about the fighting dragons come from?
and
2) Where did the tune come from?
tsuwm has correctly identified A). I have yet to get a correct response to 2). It should be noted that I discovered the answer to 2) only because of my highly catholic tastes in music (disliking only opera and Amazon River Indian music, although I have heard isolated examples in both those categories that I can listen to*). The recording on which I heard the original of the tune did have its fifteen minutes.
* I like thousand year old Japanese music but can normally listen to no more than one side of an LP at a sitting.

Name the song that contains the following lyrics and the band that performed it.
Lyrics: You're such a natural woman But you're so far away, baby. Your love is driving me crazy, I'm coming home. I know you can't live without love; I know you're feeling so lonely. Save all your sweet loving for me, I'm coming home.
You gotta ---- -- ----, I'm coming home, So ---- ---- --. Don't throw your love away, 'cause I'm coming home, So ---- ---- --, ---- ---- --. I'm coming home, I'm coming home.

you could e-mail Mr. Hedin at the above address, but here is one version of the whole furshlugginer story: http://arts.ucsc.edu/GDead/AGDL/stagger.htmldown at the bottom you'll find various (copyrighted?) versions of the original trad. folk song. ("and the band that performed it")
