Animals on hillside reminds me of anecdote about Cordell Hull, Secretary of State during FDR's presidencies.
He had a reputation for avoiding speculation, which he demonstrated on one occasion when on a train someone called attention to sheep, saying they had been shorn. Hull looked briefly, and assented: "Shorn on this side, anyway."
