Modern domestic cats are descendants of the African wild cat, a species which hominines have always co-existed with.
Cute, Max. Is hominines a real word?

Oh, no! I don't owe any cat anything!...My cat owes me! I am a true hominid, through and through...you'll never make a hominine out of me! "Gimme that old time idism! Gimme that old time idism! Gimme that old time idism! It's good enough for me!"

Of Australopithecines, their tools and weapons:

Of course!...how could I commit such a treason? The Naked Ape is the only primate worthy of distinction!

Since cats were known for thousands of years in Egypt and elsewhere, it seems improbable that a single cat would have a high value in Morocco or Tunisia or wherever it was sold.
A pretty story, but perhaps not based on fact.
