This is a question for the comcomputer* folks. Yesterday's buzzword for the day at Buzzwhack ( http://www.buzzwhack.com) was A20: A2O: Shorthand for comparing dissimilar things -- apples to oranges. "I'd disregard that. It was an A2O analysis." I'm guessing that the meaning arises from association with a computer reference - is A20 associated with an error code or something which can be extrapolated to mean a comparison for dissimilar things? *copyright 2002, by my four-year-old

Dear Sparteye. Nothing to do with Computer code, I'm afraid. You've actually misread it. It's not A20 but A2O!
Shorthand for Apples to Oranges (A-to-O).
Best,
Rubrick

Well, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other, really.

Can you not compare them in qualities that they share? Fiber content? Vitamin C content?

Or rather, since we're suppose to be comparing apples and oranges,
APPLE APPLE APPLE APPLE APPLE APPLE
ORANGE ORANGE ORANGE ORANGE ORANGE ORANGE
(but just to be confusing, I prefer to utter the phrase as "half of one and six-a-dozen of the other") ;-)

Ah the Good Old Days. We had TTY-35(?)s that had slashed Ohs and/or slashed zeroes on the keyboard, slashed Ohs and/or slashed zeroes on the type cylinder and no strictly observed convention as to which was which including no convention by which the keyboard and type cylinder on a given machine matched. Then you get a student wave a printout in front of you asking what was wrong with this program and you say, "That Oh should be a zero." Talk about getting a reputation for omniscience.
