I believe the word I had in mind was one word. I just realized I will see my plastic-surgeon nephew when he's in town next week, and maybe he'll know. A subject would sit with his/her forearm on a table, but screened from their sight. Close to this, in full view, was a plastic hand. When the experimenter would tickle the plastic hand, the subject would "feel" it! My missing word does not involve an abnormal loss, but a normal cessation of feeling. Thanks.
