Dear God--the 26th MEU landed yesterday. All pray, hope, cross fingers, say mantras, meditate, or whatever you do, for our friend's son and for all of the people involved in this danger, that they will return safe and sound.

I have some very happy news. I was wrong about which ship my son is on. When I talked to him a couple of days before he shipped out, he didn't know which ship he would be on. Then he was whisked away and there followed a complete block on communication before he had a chance to tell me anything. He didn't get his first mail call until November 3, and then the only person that he wrote the name of his ship to was my mother. My mother left for Tucson, Arizona before the letter arrived, and only received it the end of last week. In the meantime, I had done some investigating on the USMC website and knowing only that he is in the 26th MEU AAV detachment and departed from Camp Lejeune, it seemed that the USS Bataan was his ship. Much to my delight I find that he is actually aboard the USS Whidbey Island. I have no idea where that ship is at present, but I have not heard that they are sending Marines from that ship to Afghanistan. Hopefully they leave him in the Mediterranean, somebody's got to ride around there, too! Now I just have to figure out how to tell all the great people at AWAD. I still am praying for all those that have landed and I know they are in everyone's thoughts as well, but myomy I feel such great relief!
I decided that this PM I wrote to a concerned friend would be the right way to tell all you great people my good news.

Hi folks. I just thought maybe some would remember this thread and might have a slight interest in the newest news I have of my son. In a letter to my sister recently, he said he spent Christmas and New Years Day in a trench with a machine gun across his knees. Guess that will teach me to pay absolute attention to a mother's instincts, huh.

Thankfully, Connie, he hasn't met with any harm. Here's hoping, with God's speed, he will soon be home in your arms.

Your Happy Epeolatrist!

Blessings upon, and thanks, to, your son and his fellow servicemen (and women). Prayers for peace, and that they all come home safely and soon. And a prayer for strength and patience for loved ones who must wait at home. [kiss]

Thanks, Consuelo, for the update. The only things that are really important is that the people we love are safe, healthy, and free.

Dear consuelo: At least the likelihood of major battles seems to be past. But the news does seem to indicate AlQueda has many small groups capable of ambush and sniping. I hope the Marines won't be wasted in handling this problem. Bill

[dancing, singing, clapping my hands and snapping my fingers-e] Here's hoping that this is the last time I have to raise this thread. I received a phone call [a miracle in itself as I am usually here at this time of night] from my son tonight. We talked for an hour. He is back in North Carolina and I will see him again just in time for his birthday, June 28. Thank you all for your prayers and concern. Big smooches to all. Oh, I am so happy!
