Man, you-all sure got weird, in the few days that I was away...
I finally have plowed through a couple of categories, and have only this to say (so far!): I notice that Q & A has gone nearly completely over to jokiness. I personally don't mind--I'll read everything eventually, anyway--but I would like to point out that some months ago, my aunt proposed that that category be left as free from the pun stuff as possible, so that the folks who are looking for serious word discussions can know where to go immediately, without having to wade through things they don't want to.
It was noted then that many members are short of time, and also that for many, the more they are on-line, the more money they have to pay. There was a general agreement among members at that time to follow this suggestion. BUT--if there is a consensus to change, so be it.
As I said, I personally will read everything anyway, but our serious language-lovers are some of our best people, and I do not want to lose them if we can help it. Thanks, everybody.
j, we go through these cycles, don't we? folks seem to respond slowly to conventional wisdom. :)
Chatalot? Oh, dear, I only looked at this thread thinking that it was about fecund French felines.
(For non-Francophones, "chat"="cat" in English.) Which makes the Los Angeles Times' cat-fanciers column, "Cat Chat" most amusing!
OK, Jackie, no more puns. Sorry...
