Dear Keiva: In early Star-Trek episodes, there was feminine Uhura. You have changed spelling.
In some of the sites I found, there was Uhuru apparently male in later episodes. Maybe the lady got nice and went up on her price, and a bargain basement male got her job.

"Uhuru" is Swahili for "freedom".
