OP My favorite Robert Burns quote is the one about his being accused of failing to show the right attitude when he did not sign up for military duty in some outburst of patriotism, to which he replied that he would rather be present at the making of one, than at the killing of ten. Several of his poems make it clear that he was talented at that.
