The "people" are not an aggregation of identical individuals. There are nice people, and people who are not nice. The nice people just don't do anything to make you notice them. But the slobs sure do. Just as it is said God must love the poor, because he made so many of them, he must love slobs also. A lot of people do antisocial things when they are away from home, and can express their hostility anonymously.
