I found the word
lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrim-
hypotrimmatosilphioparaomelitokatakechymeno-
kichlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonopteke-
phalliokigklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetraganopterygon

at The Grandiloquent Dictionary (http://www.islandnet.com/~egbird/dict/dict.htm) defined as A goulash composed of all the leftovers from the meals of the leftovers from the meals of the last two weeks . This certainly beats those antidis and flocci words, but do we consider it valid? What say you?

Sorry for the wide screen, it's a long word!

[EDIT: I decided to add some spaces because the wide was too annoying.]

...or hash (from Aristophanes' The Ecclesiazusae), according to Mrs. Byrne. now, do we consider her Dictionary of Unusual, Obscure, and Preposterous Words to be a valid dictionary?

tsuwm asks: Mrs. Byrne. now, do we consider her Dictionary of Unusual, Obscure, and Preposterous Words to be a valid dictionary?

It's recently been quoted at length by at least one Pooh-Bah.

Seems to me it should lose points simply for being considerably longer than its definition. And can it be etymologized? Do all those elements mean something? If so it should surely be considered the pterygon of long words.

> the pterygon of long words.

and right there I think you've captured the chymeno-length(s) one would have to reach to make sense of all its elements.

I recognise some of the elements in the word. It seems to be a list of the ingredients in a stew or hash.

And just to show that Mrs. Byrne has not led us astray:

Since the Eccleiazusae is a comedy, I assume Aristophanes made up the word as a joke.

Come, quickly, seize hold of a plate, snatch up a cup, and let's run to secure a place at table. The rest will have their jaws at work by this time.

ĦOh, duh!
