a trouble with irish is there is proper grammor and pronounciation, and the more common sort-
some quick rules- bh \as in Soibhan-- is V- \she vawn to rhyme with dawn..) gh is a H\Meagher is closer to MA her =and often anglosized to Maher --it is never meager Dun Laoghaire-- is Dun Leaghery/leahery (Lay hery) (lere y is the worst anglo/american rendition.)
the vowels are all impossible diphthongs and change as frequently as english ones.. (see Rod's poem on what rhymes, and what doesn't)
so queen meb- name would be mav.. (or mavis, or maude=very anglosized) a common irish ending for a name is the diminutive een maura becomes maureen dora (or dorethy) becomes doreen nora becomes noreen.. and so on..maveen is not common, but not unknown. in english, smithers-- a mess, or bits and peices.. becomes smithereens.. broken in to very small pieces..
