Yup, it's squid's turn all right. And the grid lines up very nicely for me, Rod. You have been an exemplary MC. Thanks.

Both versions of the table look excellent to me, with everything aligned as it should be. If squid is uncontactable or unavailable I volunteer to be MC for one round as I came across a word the other week which immediately made me think, "Now there's one for hogwash."

I'm really flattered that everyone would like me to take over the next round, but also a bit distraught since I am really new here. I don't really feel comfortable with all the technical stuff here and will also be away for at least three days starting tonight. Perhaps next time if someone would explain the details of what I have to do then I would be game. I would really appreciate if Bingley (or anyone else) would take over the next round!

The sinuosity in the tables appears to be a function of the way different browsers handle fonts for pre-formatted text. Both Netscape and Internet Explorer provide a choice of monospaced fonts for Fixed width/Plain Text but while IE appears to honour this choice in pre-formatted text, Netscape (4.75 at least - anyone tried 6.1 yet?) does not. If I have time (unlikely) I will try to find out why, or whether you need a different or additional tag or option to get Netscape to work as desired.

The lines look squiggly to me... or should that be "squidly"?

just so, rod. and for once aol (ha!) gets it right! to get netscape to work properly I had to override document specified fonts in Preferences.
