No, that has nothing to do with a department store. If you've never read it, I highly recommend The Education of Hyman Kaplan by Leo Rosten. A real classic for linguaphiles and screamingly funny. I haven't been able to google it to provide a link, but I did see a link to Amazon to buy it.
