OP I have to agree, rather grudgingly, with mav. In a conversational context, "classical" music is a useful generalisation - as, indeed, is "popular" music. The latter includes a whole corpus of work that is only "popular" with relatively small groups of people. I have heard punk referred to as "popular" music in the same sort of context as Chopin is referred to as "classical." Both terms are, strictly speaking, incorrect, but within a general context, it does serve a purpose.
It doesn't stop it from getting on my ears, though! Come on, musick, lets go into the corner and talk Early Baroque!
