it's tsuwm's revenge round®, all scores for this round will be doubled.
the word is tetrapyloctomy
as always, PM your definitions; deadline is 4pm CDT Tues
well, I'm going to have to throw out this round due to far too many Eco-philes. stay tuned for round 7a.
'Potio-section, as everybody knows, is the art of slicing soup. No, no,' he said to Diotallevi. 'It's not a department, it's a subject, like Mechanical Avunculogratulation or Pylocatabasis. They all fall under the heading of Tetrapyloctomy.'
'What's tetra...?'
'The art of splitting a hair four ways. Mechanical Avunculogratulation, for example, is how to build machines for greeting uncles. We're not sure, though, if Pylocatabasis belongs, since it's the art of being saved by a hair. Somehow that doesn't seem completely useless.'
Gang (Guys?): should we ask to see the definitions he got, or do people want to hold their bluffs for the next round? I just enjoy reading what y'all come up with, but I kin wait a piece, for round 7a, 'fnecessary.
I'd like hearing the bluffs. I make mine when I know the word, so I have no need to save it. I'll wait to see how we decide, though.
okay, here they are (vote for your favorite bluff):
1. A surgical procedure involving removal of growths blocking breathing passages and sinuses.
1a. formal term for the phrase "ripping you a new one"
2. A surgical procedure to remove four hemorrhoids at the same time.
3. cuttting hairs, into four bits or lengths. Gimme the prize now
4. an ingenious use of semi-recursion in electronic chip design where 4 (tetra) gates (from greek pyli) are made to do the work of 8 (octo).
5. An exploratory surgical procedure involving four incisions in the pelvic area.
6. The removal of a third limb.
7. The surgical removal of one of a cow's four stomachs.
8. Surgical removal of a hair follicle tumor [tetrapylotoma] which contains cells descended from all three embryonic cell lines: endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm.
9. the surgical replacement of a missing leg
10. the surgical removal of the fourth rib
11. surgical alteration of the pyloric region of the stomach by means of four parallel incisions in the inner wall
12. A surgery in which the appendix, gall bladder, spleen, and pancreas are removed.
13. In veterinary medicine, treatment of the bovine digestive tract.
[at least five people knew the definition; three of those submitted bluffs also; one was a wise-guy and reworded it.]
My favourite, or at least the one I would have been most likely to vote for (after the true one and my own, naturally) is number 8.
But they are all (excepting the true one and my own, naturally) soooo good.
