We really are a lucky band of men and women to have found a realm where we can indulge in the things we love most---words, both beautiful and weird, poetry, languages, and more words.

To celebrate my becoming a member a few minutes ago, I would like to share with you a quote from Homer that perfectly sums up what we are and what we are doing in some of the most recent popular threads like "sublime rime" and "sonnets" and a thread that was started by Maverick , a while ago, about quotes.
Here goes--

As form me, I know nothing
So completely delightful as a land where the people are filled
With good humor, and those that feast in the halls sit quietly
At tables covered with good things to eat and listen
To the songs of a poet, while the wine-bearer draws wine from the bowl
And fills the goblets of all. This seems to me
The finest thing in the world.

Odysseus to King Alcinous,
Book IX, The Oddyssey of Homer

What would be the finest thing (a place, an adventure, an epiphany, an extraordinary happening) in the world for you?

Congrats, WC, on achieving membership.

I'm afraid that the finest thing for me would be something amazingly mundane, like being able to sleep in or watch a half-hour long TV show uninterrupted. [looking-disapprovingly-at-my-boys emoticon]
