The general French term for a plait (more commonly used in UK than braid I think, pronounced plat) is "tresse", sometimes "nette". But they probably have lots more terms. What French Braids are called in particular, I would have to hazard a guess at "tresses anglaises" in line with all the other English/French swaps.
