To think I actually giggled when my English professor pronounced it "lie-lock"! I feel so cheap. Around here it's always "lie-lack," unless you happen to be my English professor. Apropos of nothing: Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers, not least because they start blooming just before my birthday. (hint,hint)

As soon as your tresses have grown long enough to allow the Prince to effect your rescue, move North to New Hampshire, Rapunzel, where the lilac blooms from mid-to-late-May and we honor it as the Official State Flower.

I'm a "lie-lock" supporter all the way, and I was just thinking about that this morning as I walked to school and noticed the lack of lilacs in St. John's. I recall getting teased by my Saskatchewanian friends about how I said it. Apparently when you cross the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border, the pronunciation changes!
