Ah, lilacs! With just a bit of an "ah" sound in second syllable. Like the French for lake - "lac". My dictionary gives three ways of pronouncing it.When I was in Massachusetts, I had the misfortune of buying some by mail that were infected with a fungus, and wiping out all of the others.
To think I actually giggled when my English professor pronounced it "lie-lock"! I feel so cheap. Around here it's always "lie-lack," unless you happen to be my English professor.
