French Québec cocotte is either a) a hen b) a big stewing pot c) a term a affection for little girls eg. ma cocotte d)a cone from any fir/pine tree.
This type of change in meanings can be a little disastrous when France Frenchies and Québec Frenchies merge. My sister's ex-mother-in-law took great exception to my sis calling her daughter cocotte or catin - two words that mean prostitute in France. Here "catin" is akin to the English "dollie" instead of doll.
