In WWII, "Jerry" was US Army slang for the krauts.
Copied from the British if used by the Americans. "Kraut" (derived from "sauerkraut"?) was the usual American slang. "Jerry" was originally a semi-affectionate(!) contraction of "German" coined in Britain.
