Sartorial, of course, means "of or relating to (a tailor or) tailored clothes;" does anyone know a word that means (approximately) "of or relating to arranged hair?"
Thanks
here's what i gleaned from my favorite obscure dictionary:
comatulid - having hair that is neatly curled
dasypygal (adj.) - having hairy buttocksoh wait, that's not really relevant, unless of course it's arranged nicely
Coiffurial? Since coining seems to be the new trend here these days.
Is that Daisy Piggle who has a hairy ass? There are spa's that specialise in waxing posteriors-- maybe she should go to one! (almost a YART! don't start talking about Cally Pidgeon..)
oh goody, a chance to display my hair(y) collection:
alopecia - loss of hair: baldness
glabrous - smooth, esp: having a surface without hairs or projections
horripilation - the erection of the hair of the head or body from fear or cold
poliosis - graying of the hair
tetrapyloctomy - the art of splitting a hair four ways (Umberto Eco coinage?)
trichoptilosis - a longitudinal splitting of hair fiber better known as split ends
trichotillomania - the abnormal urge to pull out one's hair
(and since bridget weighed in with dasypygal) hirsute - roughly hairy, esp covered with coarse, stiff hair
tsuwm, since you mention "trichoptilosis", you give me a segue for sharing "trichoschisticism", which is defined as the making of overly fine points (or hair-splitting) in an argument. i'd made a mental note to look up the putting-words-in-another's-mouth thread and post this as as related word.
speaking of hair, where has the Auricomous One been hiding? i haven't seen her post in *ages*. she must be busy with those ducks
>"trichoschisticism"
...which leads directly to 'tetrapyloctomy'.
How about coiffured
oh, and you left out 'piliferous'...
which leads to "piloerection" (the entymology of which is rather obvious), a synonym for horripilation.
also, the lovely "ulotrichous", having wooly or crisply curling hair
Tonsorial is the best response I received. (Just in case anyone was wondering.)
Thanks all for the other interesting words, too.
