Maybe so, Luke, but even as you read this you are holding in your hand a window to the repository of all knowledge. You just need the willingness to poke around a little. On your own, or with a little help from your friends to show you where to poke. In this case if you "Google-translate" (go to translate.google.com, or another free onlilne translator) and put in "ich brauche Hilfe von Wofa, wahrscheinlich" (no need to type, just cut and paste) it will give you the translation. (Or at least a first approximation of one; definitely it has its limits...though in this case, it gave "I need help from Wofa, probably" ! )

Endy - whenever you write a post, there is a row of icons across the top of the composing box. The smiley-face gives you a truckload of emoticons to pick from. The "world-with-a-paper-clip" gives you the opportunity to insert a link to another web page. B is bold, I is italicize, U is underline, and those three are almost-universal shortcuts; try them in your word-processor. There are others; have fun exploring!.

Thanks,Doc. I do know how to google translate, but don't see
why I should be the one doing it.

On the thread where you play with the word of the day, you
add one letter, or change one and make a new word, pratfall
being one last week I believe.
At the time I did not understand that it was only ONE letter
and was changing more than one letter. You kindly let me know
by going back to the origins of the thread to see how the
person who started it only changed one letter, and seeing
that I complied.

Now I ask you, is it possible for you to go back to the origins
of this thread and see how it started? Did it embolden
the word to be 'worked on'? Did it contain poetry, German
phrases, Nietzche, Shakespeare, et. al. I am just wondering
and would greatly appreciate knowing.

I don't know how to get back there or I'd do it. What did
the originators intend? Or perhaps you can tell me how to
do it and I'll do it. I greatly appreciate your help, you've
done so in the past and I'll need it in the future. I've
only been using computers since '08, and will never be
really literal in its use. My life does not contain the years
needed.

When they started, they all were well-defined and rigidly rule-bound. At time goes by (measured in month-to-years!) they've gotten more relaxed, sometimes because we didn't have anywhere to go without overlooking some of the rules, sometimes because we didn't want to be to too pedantic and self-righteous, sometimes because we were full of good cheer and tolerance, sometimes because we were just too tired to protest. Mostly it's been in the spirit of indulgence with the recognition and acknowledgment that we were breaking the rules, and overlooking it. We try to stick within them, most of the time.

Occasionally we arrive at a total dead end and have to start over. If it really bothers you to have rules available and to have people flout them, consider it a break in the continuity, and a starting-over.

As for the side comments, they are a little bit to show off how smart we are, and to share an insight, and to teach, and [quoting from my beloved Gilbert&Sullivan] to provide "corroborative detail, intended to lend artistic verissimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative..."

And by the way, I have no official standing or power whatsoever on this Board or this thread, so feel free to consider my thoughts and reject them utterly; your opinion is as valid as mine. It's just my nature to think I see a need and to step in and try to fill it, without even being asked. In this case I'm trying to be a self-appointed mediator/explainer/facilitator.
