>Marx's friend, Freidrich Engels, was left a house in his uncle's will. He and Marx went to inspect and explore his new property. On reaching the attics, Engels peered into the water tanks, gave a startled exclamation, put his arm into the water and withdrew two ancient fiddles. "Great Scott, Marx," he exclaimed, "Do you think they might be valuable?" "No," replied his friend, "They are merely the violins inherited in the cistern."
That same house came to be occupied by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who lived there during a very destitute part of his life. Alas, the house caught on fire in the middle of the night, and Henri grabbed his Bugle Boys and ran from the house, where he fell and knocked himself out. He came to and asked if the firefighters had saved anything. The reply, of course, was "You have nothing, Toulouse, but your jeans."

Ah yes, I remember that story - The house was in Wales and had been fired by Welsh Nationalists. It so happened that Marx and Engels were nearby and caught sight of the red glow in the sky. "That's where my old house is," cried Engels. "What do you think is causing the glow, Marx?" Marx replied, "Its Feuerbach"

Instead of burning down their house, Feuerbach helped build it.
Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels saw in Feuerbach's emphasis on people and human needs a movement toward a materialistic interpretation of society, which they later formulated as the theory of historical materialism.

I was afraid someone would cotton onto that. I sort of got shamed out of the thread about the Ides of Marx (er March) so I started a new thread without realizing where it was.
Ted -- who deep down inside views this as a YARN, Yet Another Rehashed Niggling (GRIN!!!!) But then again, Ted's a bit warped by the old timers who seem to loom over him.
So string me up!

As the gendarme said to the French college kid who was pissing against the university building, If it's fun, it's OK. YARTS can be fun for newcomers, and the oldtimers can ignore them. And besides, it gave me a chance for reasonable post.
