A quote from yet another article: an effort to share best practices between teachers from different systems to turnaround some of the lowest reading scores in the state Has turnaround become a verb, now?

c'mon J., surely you know, by now, that every noun is a candidate for verbing.

So after the YCLIU I see a turnaround is a u-turn. Why not just say turn around or would that be incorrect here? If so what's the difference.

So after the YCLIU I see a turnaround is a u-turn. Why not just say turn around or would that be incorrect here? If so what's the difference. Strictly speaking "turn around" is correct for the verb. I have seen a lot of words/phrases like this where there is an existing phrasal verb with a corresponding single word noun form and the verb phrase has been written as a single word. Examples would be setup/set up and backup/back up, the latter being the procedure of saving the contents of a hard drive. I had a running battle with a technician over test procedure/test results reports on the setup/set up issue. Every time I'd get a report from her the first thing I did was find/replace all instances of setup, but I had to do it on an individual basis, deciding in each case whether it was a noun or a verb. I suspect that in the near future the single word version will be acceptable for the verb. We'll know when that has happened when we see, e.g., backupped as the past tense of the verb and don't bat an eye.
