"On line" is a horrible perversion of the correct form

Oh, my. I have always identified the "on line" idiom as being a New York thing, and like many regionalisms, I find it enjoyable. What's the problem? It's no more perverse than folks pronouncing pin and pen with the same vowel.

Not exactlythe same, but "often" with or without the "t".

Doubly: the car is out "in" in the driveway,
yet we drive "on" on the parkway.
