Arctic Dreams: nilas
a thin elastic crust of gray-colored ice formed on a calm sea; characterized by a matte surface, and easily bent by waves and thrust into a pattern of interlocking fingers

Ah, Candy your guess was right but you prefered impending doom.
I doubted from the beginning if the ice were going to hold; of course per definiton it could not.

To me all definitions were very credible as I have no knowlegde of Nabisco biscuits.

Jackie-- a) 2 votes; Buffo and Candy.
Owlbow-- b) 1 vote; Mr. C.Chow.
Candy-- c) 1 vote; Olly.
Luke-- d) 2 votes; Jackie and Wofahulicodoc,
Wofahulicodoc-- e) 3 votes; Faldage, Owlbow, stuwm (with analysis)
Faldage f)-- a dangling vote.
The Free Dictionary-- g) 1 fatal vote; LukeJavan8.
Ciud Chow-- h) 1 vote; Avy who knows just like me that in Manila, they write it vanila.

There is a clear winner and a lot of non losers and ít's the game that counts. I hope I did not make mistakes in the counting.
Good, amusing definitions and thanks for participating.

It really was G?? I thought, "What a great definition but it can't be the real one: no dictionary has 'em that lengthy!" Growf!

Good game, though, and thank you.

Thank you for coming in to vote, Avy. Mr Aloof appreciates this one point and might be around next time, but then also maybe not. I sure hope you'll be around whenever you have some time to spend.

@Jackie nilas

It will be a word from the Arctic languages I suppose, but it is used in hydrology>> nilas
Very dangerous to walk on.

And here are some pictures. The fingers don't show very well. Scroll down abut half-way.

No the 'fingers' don't show that well, but I was amused by the 'pancake ice' idea.

Thanks for that article Wofa.
