fast speech in old movies I have noticed that the pace of the dialogue in films from the 30's and first half of the 40's is much faster than we are accustomed to. In Marx Bros. movies, you can miss one of Groucho's quips if you're not paying attention. It would be an interesting study to see when movie makers decided to slow down the pace of the dialogue.
