I usually use the Firefox web browser, and my 'overhead' has become very cluttered. I use the Menu Bar often, esp. for History and a full list of Bookmarks. I use the Navigation Toolbar for URL recall and changing Search Engines. I use the Bookmarks Toolbar for my 15 or 16 most often used bookmarks. and boy, howdy, is the top of my browser screen bollixed by all of this stuff.

so, I recall from my personalizing presentation, I can turn off all of the tool-bars by right-clicking in the Menu Bar area and individually un-checking (or up-chucking, if you prefer) each one of them. but now I find I can't get them back (remember, I often use each of them) because there's no Menu Bar to right click in!

in despair, I google firefox toolbars missing (actually one of the google suggestions as I typed 'firefox t') and I found this common answer to what seems a very common problem:

here's some related terminology..

the line at the very top of your browser screen (this is true of virtually all apps) is called the Title Bar, and gives the title of the web page and app you're dealing with - in our case it reads: Wordsmith Talk - Mozilla Firefox (your browser may vary)

the next line down is the Menu Bar (if enabled), comprising the File / Edit / View / History / Bookmarks / etc. menus.

in an earlier post I suggested experimenting with the right mouse button is various areas - right clicking within the Menu Bar is where you will get the Options to disable the various toolbars, including the Menu Bar itself.

Is there some reason Google Chrome does not have
the 'menu' bar as does Internet Explorer, or is it that
I just don't have it "enabled" (is that the word?)?

click on the wrench - the google Chrome folks decided to deal with some of the clutter directly by moving most of the Menu functions to this hidden toolbar*. hover your mouse pointer over Tools in this resulting menu. (notice the little arrow to the right of Tools, this indicates there is a sub-menu). on this sub-menu one of the options is 'Clear browsing data' - you may have seen comments here and there such as, "you need to clear your cache"; this is where that's done - but that's a topic for another day.

*edit: many tyros *hate this 'feature' and quit Chrome because of it!

Oh, thanks, M--I had no idea what to tell him about Chrome. I took a look at the sample; was afraid to download it. So, in Chrome, to find the Menu Bar (thanks for the names, too), someone would:

1.) click on the wrench (OH--wrench = tool; duh), then
2.) hover the cursor over the resulting menu, then
3.) click on Tools

?

Then someone could use, say, the Edit functions to cut, copy, and paste?

not quite..

when you click on the wrench you get a menu that looks something like the firefox Menu bar menus, with options such as Edit, Print, Bookmark manager, and Tools which brings up a sub-menu.

what I was trying to say was that Chrome doesn't *have a Menu bar per se.

I have not had a chance to do this: too many appointments
and errands. But thanks for both of you. Jackie: I am
still working on your first PM. Got the cut/paste thing
and more. Will be getting back to you.
