Hello, all! This is my first post on these forums, so I hope I'm posting on the right sub-forum!

Anyways, I've created an online spoonerism generator recently ( spoonerize.com ).

Here's how it currently works, according to my knowledge of spoonerisms:
1. Loops through each individual sentence.
2. Loops through each individual work in said sentence.
3. Filters words according to possibly specified max distance/length/blacklist of bad words (such as 'and')
4. Matches two words to be spoonerized together (such as 'Hello' and 'there')
5. Switches around the characters before the first vowels in each word (so, 'thello' and 'Here')
6. Capitalizes correctly ('Thello' and 'here')
7. Prints out the now spoonerized text!

That's my basic process, however, I'm not too well versed in wordplay/spoonerisms, so I'm coming here, hoping to get some feedback on what might work better! Any tips/advice would be amazing!

my mother used to say, on the way to church, something
about an usher saying:

"Mardon me, padam;
you are occupewing the wrong pie.
May I sew you to another sheet?"

Is this what you mean? (I too am not very literate in
lots of these things, as you mention above.)

thanks: we'll keep an eye on this thread. Sort of slow
on the site today, but it will pick up. Thanks for a new
thread to play with. And again, welcome.

A personal favourite of mine was coined by my father (possiby by mistake) when driving home one friday and deciding what to have for dinner:
Chish and fips

That expresses it all in one swell foop!

For more involved spoonerisms, see the Capital Steps, singers of political satire, in any of their routines that go collectively by the name of "Lirty Dies."

And there is the more classical (1930s?) book My Tale is Twisted, by the illustrious Colonel Lemuel Stoopnagel. It's been reprinted, and may be still available at StoneandScott.com

"Stone and Scott...offer STOOPNAGLE'S 'TALE IS TWISTED' by Keen James. Book includes "Beeping Sleauty" and 42 more spoonerized tales."

(My favorite is a slighty doctored "The Mion and the Louse." It's one of Aysop's Feebles...)

yeah CB, grin

What is it called when you are going to funeral and you say 'wedding' instead (apart from embarrassing)? I'm not the only one who gets this mixed up!
