I have tried and failed to find any synonyms for 'eponymous' and wondered if any of you logophiles knew of any that could save my essay from repeating this rather annoying word? Thanks

I don't know what essay you are writing Bex but could you substitute, the word title or same-name or like-name if you have already mention what eponymous is. Then there is so called and just plain eponym, but then I don't know if these fit the sense of what you are trying to say.

A synonym for eponym could be namesake.

I don't know what essay you are writing A very boring and pointless one Namesake is a definite possibility, although difficult to insert into a sentence (ie...err...an eponymous thing...ah!...the eponymous Macbeth was not truly responsible for his actions etc...namesake would be a bit harder and unwieldy...) but I'm sure I shall insert it somewhere to reduce the number of eponymouses. p.s. e PONY MOUSES (happily chuckling (slightly insane) emoticon)

I too have searched for synonyms for eponymous and have also found this largely restricted to eponymic. May I suggest "self-titled" in the sense where eponymous if often used to describe artists whose recordings bear (no title) or the title of the artist itself. Happy hunting.
