SMEG was founded by Vittorio Bertazzoni in 1948 as Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla (metal enamelling factory) and it started off by doing fridges. It expanded to dishwashers, washing machines,(in the UK) flueless gas fires, hobs, washer dryers and freestanding range cookers.
