Actually, it's accented on the second syllable (shmuh-GEG-ee) in my experience.

The only time I ever heard the word schmugeggy was on an old Rugrats episode in which the grandfather fell down, and the grandmother asks him, "Did you fall on your schmugeggy?" So I always thought that a schmugeggy was a backside.
So live and learn, huh?

yes... welcome to both new posters.
It seems that Yiddish language is growing in usage with its exposure on many American TV programs, like Seinfeld, The Nanny and Martha Stewart.

And, thinking about the word 'schmugeggy'.......
reminded me of the word SMEG as used frequently by Dave Lister in the science fiction series, Red Dwarf. (I have seen every episode). Smeg, and variants such as 'smegger' and 'smeg-head' were used as fictional swear words. It sounds the same.

SMEG was founded by Vittorio Bertazzoni in 1948 as Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla (metal enamelling factory) and it started off by doing fridges. It expanded to dishwashers, washing machines,(in the UK) flueless gas fires, hobs, washer dryers and freestanding range cookers. So the fridges came first...

You never know, they might have. Convergent evolution I think it is called...when two creatures evolve the same sort of things even though they are not related and live in different parts of the world; like the hedgehog and tenrec, smeg! may have been created without any knowledge of SMEG.

Wonder if there's any relation to shipoopi, if only by alliteration or rhythmic similarity.

I thought of shipoopi, too, but I doubt it.

the worthless word for the day is: shipoopi
[neologism of Wolfe/Meredith?] slang a woman; the girl who's hard to get(?)
(Eric Partridge claims the slang meaning is simply 'a woman', dating from 1954.)
"Remember the halcyon days, when you could get a cheesecake shot of any shipoopi into any paper by announcing she had just been chosen Girl I'd Most Like To Be Snowed In With?" - Bernard Wolfe, The Late Risers (1954)
Now a woman who'll kiss on a very 1st date, Is usually a hussy, And a woman who'll kiss on the second time out, Is anything but fussy, But a woman who'll wait 'till the 3rd time around, Head in the clouds, feet on the ground, She's the girl he's glad he's found, She's his Shipoopi. - Meredith Willson, The Music Man (1957)
