So this is pretty much the bane of my existance currently. I've been trying to think of an artist/DJ name for a while now and I feel that everything I think of is pretty trash. I'd totally be ok with a mediocre name but I'm trying to do music 100% full time and become a brand so I think the name is pretty important.
I've tried the silly little name generators which generally come up with horrible names. I have a note book of a bunch of names I've written down but none really do it for me. Sometimes I feel like I'm thinking about this too much when I hear of artists like "Musard Pimps" and "Nacho Lovers" blowing up, but then again those artists are only so big.
I'm equally as much a composer/producer as I am DJ so I don't want an "DJ Xyz" name or whatever.
So in my struggle for coming up with a name, I figured I'd take it to the experts!
The music I do is primarily electronic. Specifically Electro/Funk/Indie kinda stuff.
Current artists who's names I really dig are:
Chromeo
Treasure Fingers
Ocelot
Passion Pit
Major Lazer
Designer Drugs
Boys Noize
Fake Blood
Miami Horror
Specifically I'm trying to think of a unique name that I'll be the first google hit. I was gonna
use the name "Don't Panic" but if you type that in you get tons of Douglas Adams references. However if you type in something like "Treasure Fingers" you're just gonna get him.
I also like the hooky nature of the two words that rhyme like "Major Lazer" and then I also like the two words with the first letter vibe too ala "Crystal Castles"
I def think this is really important which is why I'm putting so much thought into it, I'm just not much of a wordsmith myself.
So what do you guys do when thinking of stuff like this? Any good resources? Enlighten me please!
