I was looking for something interesting on-line, and ended up at what apparently is Dictionary.com's home page. I thought you all might be interested in their "Staff Favorites", and I'd like to know if I'm the only one who has never heard of the word noob before.

Probably. Or either you're used to seeing it spelled with zeroes: n00b.

It's new to me. Somehow it sounds more insulting than the alternative spelling, like a cross between newbie and rube.
Or just a case of noobless obleeg?

It's just a phonetic spelling of "newb", which is short for "newbie", meaning someone new to something (anything), but "noob" does carry a derogative connotation that "newbie" doesn't have, and is slightly more derogatory than "newb". Hope that helps! (It also helps to have young and teenage boys at home who will call you a noob every now and then.... he he)

noobless obleeg HA! laugh As to the word, I am fighting the tendency to read it backwards; boon is a word I recognize.
