I think it's style over substance; but then, I would, wouldn't I‽

It's one of spelling. Kinda like a Brit saying we spell honour incorrectly. In fact, I used to have a blog, sadly offline since some major disc foo, that used that spelling.

Ah, excuse me. I didn't see that it only had one l. Mine has two. I thought it was the extra e Faldo was kvetching about.

It was the missing L that caught my attention. I was subsequently unable to find any spellings with the E and that includes the B&M OED.

It was one of many spellings, as tsuwm pointed out, e.g., link.

Entry 7 to your attention >>
link ( but the link seems to be broken )
Saw it when searching for the French gallimaufrey, (2 LL's ).
The 'galli' got something to do with gallisisms ?
'maufrey' = wrongly baked? (fried I mean) A miscooked gallisism? Mélange or hotchpotch.

I went to Squidoo in a completely different context this afternoon. I got an e-mail inviting me to be a "mystery shopper". I decided to try looking up the company making this offer, and a search led me to the site. Surprise: it's a scam.

Simply? 'tmesis'? That turned out to be Greek! Not simple at all.
