Another gem- and speaking of gems, I was surprised to see the word "smaragd" as it is the German word for emerald, which I discovered when preparing the surtitles for Vancouver Opera's recent production of Salome. (Herod is trying to change Salome's gruesome request and offers her, amongst other things, emeralds.)
