Here's a nautical term I can't find defined in my several large dictionaries or via Google. It's in one of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey series books (The far side of the world), in the sentence "Do not forget to gackle your cables, Mowett."
Any clues?
gackled cables seems to be a favored expression of Patrick O'Brian and almost no one else, except for this from The Observant Voyage: A Parody, by Owen Brian Patrick : )
