...and LABORIST, too, but I seem to recall from way back that we were using not just pure anagrams but a change of letter as well (add, or change, or delete). Take another turn!

"You may add or delete only one letter, and you may scramble the letters to form a new word."
Yes, if may means must you must be right.

well, if you take 'may' as optional, you've got two options and you could just parrot back the word, which wouldn't be much of a challenge. (btw, taking a verb such as 'provide' and adding a d without scrambling...)

I've been working on the premise that, as we've been playing, "you may" means "your choices are," not "you have permission to (but you can do something else if you want)." But the point is moot, really. If anagrams are permitted, then ORBITALS became STROBILA became LABORIST, and it's your turn, though the letters are the same. If anagrams are disallowed, the working letters are still ORBITALS and you get another shot at it, if you want. PS. Actually I raised this same question last October when the game was first started. Here's what Coffeebean, the originator, posted on the subject way back then: ...not too hung up on ROOLZ. The simpler the better. Ah, what I had in mind was to scramble AND / OR add or delete a letter. That being said, if we want to be a little more laid-back and do anagrams too, it really won't hurt anything. They're very tempting when you find a good one! (See TOTALISER <--> ARISTOTLE.)

Oh by all means, I like the srcamble AND /add or delete a letter best. There should be some challenge in it. It's just that I have a lot of work at the moment. I did not think right. So do we go from ARISTOTLE and stick to the scramble + add or delete?
E to L TORTILLAS?
Don't know where Mulligan comes from, but Mulligan's is an Irish pub in Amsterdam, where my son used to play in an Irish band till he left the country. Funny to see it here.

Forgive me, I'm being pedantic. No need to go back to ARISTOTLE as he was passed over even by his proposer as being not within the Roolz, such as they are ( ...who only TOLERATES these effronteries by the expedient of changing I into E"). As things stand, it's add or delete or change, and scramble at will. I notice that LukeJavan has a fondness for changing one letter and letting the rest stay as they were (as with REROASTED --> REROOSTED), and no one has minded. TORTILLASL --> E ASTROLITE(BTW, did you see how close Aristotle is to ABILORST?! Maybe we should change I to O and sit down on a BARSTOOL ?)

Ha! wofahulicodoc, you're running wild! Flinging Aristotles and Tolerateses and Astrolites and barstools at the baffled public. I guess we quietly bend the roolz until someone brings them on again. Still I like the old coffeebean starting rules best. ASTROLITES is fine for anyone to take on.

ROOLZ! The bane of any existence. If you endeavor to follow them, you are criticized by those who question the origin/interpretation/creator etc. ARISTOTLE somehow got a pass from the generally accepted rool about disallowing proper nouns. ASTROLITE would be similarly not acceptable. However, in the interest of simply moving forward, with no disallowances, you must accept the only choice:
- L
TOASTIER
Good luck; I've had it with all of you!
Of course, I'm just kidding... ;0)

TOASTIER
O --> E
TREATIES
(Aristotle didn't get a pass, he was rejected and ignored by his creator the instant he was named !)
