Hi,

I'm a newbie in this site and I'm looking for a word to describle a person who has a very determined mind. What would be a good word for that?

Thank you all for helping in advance.

thesaurus link for determined

I like resolute, but without knowing your context...

Nerd, hi, welcome. Really a good Q. You may well have run onto a concept for which there's no word (or at least no noun); the closest I could come is zealot or gopher. But hope the following might be of some help:

Just out of curiosity. I compared the amount of symonims for 'determined' between our two languages . For Du. I found a list of 16. Your thesaurus gives 36; a considerable difference.

Roget has even more.

aside: I guess dale has me on 'ignore'. laugh

but there are fewer nouns I suppose, let's see: dogmatist (dogmitizer), opinionist, positivist, infallibilist, bullhead, pighead, uncompromiser, die-hard, intransigent.. and resolute can be used as a noun - one who is resolute or daring. (and we all know about the thin line between adjectives and nouns.)

I don't see why,
help requested, help offered, thanks received.
What's to frustrate?

PS Hi and is it pronounced wacky nerd for your sense of the ridiculous or wake nerd because you are only a nerd until your first cup of coffee?

p.s. - frustration == no hint if word found

Besides, it might be different altogether - for example, derived from the email address of Daniel Wakener (WakenerD@ips.net or some such )
