Like Faldage, I say this as one word of two syllables, but with no elision, glottal stop or interruption of any kind, as it is a compound word, but one word, nonetheless.

The "oooh, goody!" part is the chance to trot out my favorite "and-after-you-left-they-all-called-you-crazy" item, and that is, a vegetable which I truly detest, and refuse to eat, but staunchly defend it's oft misspelt name: Brussels Sprouts. This is misspelled more often that spelled correctly, except by the companies that grow or market them. Anything handwritten is likely wrong. It's due, obviously, to the double "s", but also to ignorance of the name's origin. There is no city named "Brussel"! :0)
