Who's little lad Fredrick? This prenticed is like in the two dictionaries that have it.
What's the story of Fredrick ? A millipede? A spider of the thousand legs?
When Fredrick was a little lad
he had a web for habitat (?)

When Frederic was a little lad he proved so brave and daring,
His father thought he'd 'prentice him to some career seafaring.
I was, alas! his nurs'rymaid, and so it fell to my lot
To take and bind the promising boy apprentice to a pilot --
A life not bad for a hardy lad, though surely not a high lot,
Though I'm a nurse, you might do worse than make your boy a pilot.
I was a stupid nurs'rymaid, on breakers always steering,

Which you wouldn't have found, had he been bound apprentice to a pilot. "

I'm not routinely into this thread, although I occasionally read it.
As a matter of history, while Pinkerton was/is a proper noun, it became a common noun as well. An agent (spy or counter-spy) of the Pinkerton organization employed by the US Federal Government during the War of Northern Aggression, otherwise known as the War Between the States or the Civil War, became known as a "pinkerton."
